President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday said the country needed a knowledge and discipline-based human resource foundation.
Speaking at the prize giving ceremony of Trinity College in Kandy yesterday, he said everybody should be extremely concerned over the safety and protection of children in the current harmful social conditions.
He said the Government was fulfilling its responsibilities to the fullest in order to build a knowledge and discipline-based human resource base.
President Sirisena was received warmly by the students when he reached Trinity College premises last morning. He presented the prizes and special awards to the students with outstanding results and talents.
Trinity College, established in 1857, is reputed as a school in which students from different communities and religions study in harmony and friendship with respect for each others’ views and beliefs. It has given the nation some outstanding leaders such as Minister Lakshman Kadirgamar, Lt. Gen. Denzil Kobbekaduwa, George Keyt, Gamini Dissanayake and Kumar Sangakkara. Those who were present at the ceremony included Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake, Principal Andrew Watt, staff members, parents and old boys.
