Four more COVID-19 deaths raise fatalities to 608

Health authorities yesterday confirmed four more COVID-19 deaths and the country’s COVID-19 death toll has risen to 608.

According to a statement issued by the Department of Government Information, a 78-year-old individual from Kapuliyadda was transferred from the Marassana District Hospital to the Kandy National Hospital, where he died yesterday. The cause of death is cited as COVID-pneumonia, heart disease and high-blood pressure.

An individual from Deniyaya tested positive for COVID-19 at the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital and was transferred to the National Institute of Infectious Diseases, where he died of COVID-pneumonia and leukaemia on 14 April. The individual was 34 years old.

The same day, an individual from Ellakkala died at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital, where she was admitted after testing positive for COVID-19 at the Watupitiwela Base Hospital. The individual was 72 years old and died of COVID-pneumonia.

On 12 April, a 62-year-old individual from Pannipitiya died at the Colombo East Base Hospital, where he was transferred from the Colombo South Teaching Hospital. The cause of death is cited as COVID-19, and kidney and liver disease.
