Teheran: Iran and Sri Lanka have signed an agreement on the transfer of prisoners between the two countries in Teheran.

The agreement was signed by Iranian Justice Minister Seyyed Alireza Avaei and Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Teheran Anis Zaidi at the Ministry of Justice.

According to a report from the Department of Justice’s Public Relations, Justice Minister Avaei expressed satisfaction at the level of good relations between the two countries during the visit of the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Ministry this morning and highlighted the presence of a high-level delegation from Sri Lanka for the Iranian President’s inauguration as an example of this relations.

“There are many capacities to develop and deepen the relations between the two countries, and I hope that some of the existing problems, including banking, will be resolved,” the Justice Minister said.

Minister Avaei said one of his plans was to develop judicial relations with other countries and the transfer agreement with the Sri Lankan government would begin this development.

“I’m happy that the first agreement signed is with Sri Lanka, a friend and brother. There are good capacities for improving the rights of both countries and I believe that our diplomats in both countries and the ambassadors of Iran and Sri Lanka can play an important role in developing relations.”

The Sri Lankan Ambassador, expressing his appreciation on behalf of the Sri Lankan Government to the Iranian minister, said the two countries have strong political and diplomatic relations.

“I hope that during the course of my work, relations between the two countries will be strengthened,” he said.

“As you know, there are problems with the development of economic relations, including banking exchanges, which my country is working on, and I hope that a mechanism will soon be designed to solve the problems,” Sri Lanka’s ambassador added.

The Ambassador announced that the President of Sri Lanka will soon travel to Iran and the visit will further boost relations between the two countries.
