The Colombo Magistrate’s Court yesterday ordered to take up the case filed against former State Minister Vijayakala Maheswaran over her controversial statements regarding the LTTE on 7 December.
When the case was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake, the Organised Crime Investigation Division informed the Court that the investigations had been completed and the reports had been sent to the Attorney General.
Accordingly, the Chief Magistrate ordered to take up the case again on 7 December and to report the progress regarding the observations of the Attorney General on that day.
Speaking at an event at the Veerasingham Hall in Jaffna on 2 July, MP Maheswaran had called for the reorganisation of the outlawed terrorist group LTTE in order to curb the rising crime in the North. The UNP Jaffna District Parliamentarian resigned from her post of State Minister of Child Affairs on 5 July due to the criticism generated by her statement. She was arrested in connection with the incident and released on bail on 8 October. (Colombopage)
