The Government of Japan has decided to provide a total sum of Rs. 12 million under its Grant Assistance for Cultural Grassroots Project for the establishment of a Japanese Language Laboratory at the Faculty of Social Science and Humanities, Rajarata University of Sri Lanka.
The Grant Contract was signed between Ambassador of Japan in Sri Lanka Akira Sugiyama and Rajarata University of Sri Lanka Vice Chancellor Dr. B.A. Karunaratne, on 27 February at the Japanese Ambassador’s residence in Colombo. Minister of Town Planning, Water Supply and Higher Education Rauff Hakeem as well as other distinguished guests graced this occasion.
As Japan prepares for accepting more foreign workers, this grant assistance provides equipment for practical Japanese language education. Together with the new method called ‘Active learning’ (group work on hexagon desk) and a new textbook published by Japan Foundation, it is expected that this project would place Rajarata University as the focal point of practical Japanese language education.
The Embassy of Japan in Sri Lanka hopes this project would promote academic and cultural exchanges between Japan and Sri Lanka and deepen the understanding of Japan in Sri Lanka.
