During the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Sri Lanka, earlier this year, the China-Sri Lanka Cooperation Studies Centre (CSLCSC) of the Pathfinder Foundation (PF) translated and published the Chinese book ‘Prevention & Control of COVID-19’ to Sinhala and presented copies to senior officials of the Ministries of Education, Health, etc. The book features a range of easy to understand, practical, scientific and targeted information that assists people in following protocols that will prevent and control the spread of the virus.
As a follow up to the Sinhala translation of the manual, CSLCSC also translated and published same to Tamil language in October this year. At the launch of the event, Embassy of China in Sri Lanka Chief of Political Section Luo Chong stated that sharing medical supplies, financial and economic support are the three pillars of China-Sri Lanka COVID cooperation.
However, as the pandemic continues to spread widely across the island, there was a need for more copies to be printed for circulation among the health sector, schools and general public. With the sponsorship of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Colombo, the PF has now printed additional 10,000 Sinhala and 20,000 Tamil copies of the manual.
The manual was edited by Prof. Wenhong Zhang, a leading Chinese expert in infectious diseases and Head of the Shanghai COVID-19 Treatment Expert Group.
The China-Sri Lanka Cooperation Studies Centre of the Pathfinder Foundation carried out the translation with the support of the International Department Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Shanghai Scientific and Technical Publishers and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sri Lanka.
The soft copies of both translations are available free of charge. The Sinhala book translated by Lakshmana Saparamadu can be viewed and downloaded at https://bit.ly/3hCJQIZ and the Tamil book translated by Prof. T. Thanaraj can be viewed and downloaded at https://bit.ly/2WeNwIz.
