President Maithripala Sirisena participated in a religious function invoking blessings at the most sacred Roman Catholic shrine at the Madhu Church in Mannar yesterday.
Mannar Bishop Emmanuel Fernando and Madhu Church Administrator Rev. Fr. Emiliyanuspillai welcomed the President accompanied by his wife and daughter. Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal. Dr. Malcolm Ranjith, led religious ceremonies and blessed the President.
After the religious observances, the President took a tour of the surrounding area of the church and inquired into its development activities. A large crowd of Sinhalese, Tamil and Muslim people visited the church today where they spoke with the President.
