Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe says, during the next five years, programs that everyone can be a part of will be implemented to bring about a rapid development in the country.
Participating in the first rally of the ‘Sirikotha Gamata’ program of the United National Party (UNP) membership drive in Thotawatta Village in Panadura, the Prime Minister said that they took the Government in 2015 and began to make a change, and the results of the work done are being received now.
The Sirikotha Gamata program was launched yesterday from Kalutara District under the patronage of the Prime Minister with the participation of a large number of UNP people’s representatives.
The program is being implemented with the aim of creating a major reorganisation in the UNP and to take the party forward with a new vigor.
UNP General Secretary Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam said several programs will be implemented, including establishing a party office, membership promotion programs, and sessions to identify the problems faced by party members and to provide solutions for them.
The day-long program launched in Kalutara district today commenced from Panadura and continued in Agalawatta, Horana, Kalutara, Matugama, Bandaragama, Beruwala, and Bulathsinhala electorates.
Addressing the people in Matugama town, Prime Minister Wickremesinghe said that results of many programs implemented by UNP initiating a new journey in 2015 are only being received now and can be seen in many sectors including health, education, power and energy and highways.
The Prime Minister said that during the next five years, these programs will be taken forward rapidly for the development of the country while safeguarding the democracy and freedom, and requested the people to support the goal.
The Premier requested everyone to join the United National Party and United National Front to protect freedom, economy and reconciliation.
Ministers Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Navin Dissanayaka, Patali Champika Ranawaka, Kabir Hashim, Ajith P. Perera, and Ravi Karunanayake participated.
As part of the program, Ministers and people’s representatives went door to door in the electorates and enlightened the people on the present situation and the future outlook to bring them closer to the party.
Participating in the Sirikotha Gamata program in Horana, Minister Chandrani Bandara said she visited homes in the area and was able to identify the difficulties faced. She added that steps will be taken to provide speedy solutions to the issues. She also pointed out the necessity for women leadership in politics.
