Addressing the Parliament on Tuesday, ACMC Leader Rishad Bathiudeen called MP Wimal Weerawansa’s bluff on his allegations linking Bathiudeen’s family to Fathima Ilham, identified as the Dematagoda suicide bomber in the Easter Sunday attacks. Bathiudeen also strongly voiced that Weerawansa was sowing ethnic hatred in the country by making such false claims not just in recent times but ‘over a period of time’.
“Recently, in my absence in Parliament, Wimal Weerawansa stated that the Dematagoda suicide bomber identified in the Easter Sunday attacks was related to my family. Weerawansa reportedly said: ‘A daughter of brother of Rishad Bathiudeen’s mother was one of the Dematagoda suicide bombers’. Hon. Speaker, my mother has no any brothers. Therefore this statement was absolutely false,” said Bathiudeen MP.
“Hon. Weerawansa has been making such false statements in this House over a long period of time. I would like to stress that by making such false allegations Weerawansa has been trying to spread ethnic hatred in Sri Lanka since the day of the bombings. As all his wild allegations against me have been proven to be false, he has even skipped lodging any complaint against me with the Police. And I should also point out that he is abusing the House’s privileges by making such wild allegations against me,” he added.
