The Sri Lankan National Cricket Team has donated an undisclosed sum of money to the National Hospital, which is to be spent on purchasing much-needed medical equipment as the country combats the COVID-19 pandemic. Sri Lanka Cricket confirmed that orders had been placed for several video laryngoscopes and equipment that would significantly improve treatment of COVID-19 patients.  Laryngoscopy is an endoscopy of the larynx, a part of the throat, and is used to obtain a view, for example, of the vocal folds. Traditional laryngoscopy involves the use of a device to align the curvature of a patient’s airway into a straight line so that you can see the larynx with your eye, whereas a video laryngoscopy allows for a video camera to broadcast the procedure onto a screen.

The generous donation from the National Team came following a request made to the general public for help. Earlier this week Sri Lanka Cricket announced that it had donated Rs. 25 million towards a COVID-19 fund
