Minister of Youth Affairs and Southern Development Sagala Ratnayake says the Government and the United National Party (UNP) were strengthened by the No-Confidence Motion against the Prime Minister and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and the party started a new journey through it.
The Minister made this comment while participating in an inspection tour to observe the progress of the construction work of the Weligama Police Station, for which the foundation stone was laid when he was Minister of Law and Order.
Further expressing his views, Minister Ratnayake said the party knew the result of the No-Confidence Motion and worked hard to better the result.
“We were able to unite everyone with confidence. It will be a great strength to the country in the future,” Minister Ratnayake said.
“Now that the No-Confidence motion is over, it’s time to work for the people and we only have two years left,” he said.
The Minister noted that the first three years were difficult since all planning, preparation of tax policies, correcting revenue streams, and addressing the fiscal issues were being done in those three years.
“Now, in the next two years we have to work for the betterment of the people. Otherwise the people will give us the same result as the Local Government elections,” he said.
The Minister said the Local Government election result was a great strength for the party to rectify the shortcomings and go forward.
“As a party we expect to work together and the No-Confidence motion was a great help to strengthen the party as well as the Government.”
“We hope to work with the President in a cooperative manner in the future,” the Minister added.
“Over the past three years, UNP supporters have been very patient and while defending the mechanism that elected us to power we need to work for the country as well,” the Minister said.
