University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Dr. Mohan de Silva in a statement said that it had not curbed the Mahapola beneficiaries or bursaries given to university students around the country.
According to the statement, the UGC had already distributed the bursary payments to beneficiaries who had commenced studies (2016/2017 study year) at the universities of Sri Jayawardenepura and Moratuwa.
In addition, it said that the UGC has provided Mahapola and bursaries for students in all faculties who started education in January and February this year, and that the universities had already taken steps to disburse them accordingly within this month.
The UGC also pointed out that the students who were anticipating commencing education in the near future would also receive their Mahapola scholarship and bursaries within a month’s time.
Further, the UGC assured that they have given the allocated budgets to all universities to carry out the Mahapola and bursary payments throughout the year.
