Hublot and its retail partner Colombo Jewellery Stores hosted a meet-and-greet with Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Mumbai Indians IPL team and Hublot’s Friend of the Brand, at their store located at Alfred House, Colombo.

Being a part of the international cricket fraternity, Sharma met Hublotistas, privileged guests and a few legendary Sri Lankan cricket players during his visit to the boutique. To mark this unique visit, Sharma presented a Hublot Big Bang Wall Clock to Colombo Jewellery Stores CEO Akram Cassim.

Sharma received a very warm welcome by all the Sri Lankan cricketers as well as Hublotistas who enjoyed talking to the professional player as well as took pictures with the star.

Notable amongst the guests were Mumbai Indians IPL team coach Mahela Jayawardene and legendary Sri Lankan batsman Aravinda De Silva, who was instrumental in helping Sri Lanka win the 1996 cricket world cup.

Sharma has been a Hublot Friend since 2016. He shares the same values as the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer, excellence, precision, passion and generosity. Hublot also sees a lot in common with Sharma as he combines a traditional batting technique with entertainment. Ranked amongst the top 10 batsman in the world in limited overs cricket and having the world record of scoring the maximum runs in the 50-over format of the game, Hublot said it was proud to be associated with this talented cricketer.

Two big events were organised on 24 November 2014 in India and Australia to seal the Swiss watch-making brand’s new association with cricket. To mark the occasion, a watch dedicated to cricket devotees was unveiled.

Hublot CEO Ricardo Guadalupe commented: “Hublot has once again proven itself as the first, unique, and different luxury brand to enter cricket. This incredible sport will round off our worldwide marketing presence and help drive our development in countries with high commercial potential. I am delighted with this great collaboration that awaits us, and am very proud that the ICC has chosen Hublot as its partner.”

Two cricket champions are part of the Hublot family - Australian Michael Clarke and Sharma. While receiving the Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph 2016 ICC World Twenty20 cricket watch from Hublot, he said: “I have always been a watch fanatic; so being associated with a brand like Hublot is an absolute delight. They create some of the most incredible timepieces; unique and different. I have always been a fan, so to be on their roster and have them on mine is incredible. Their involvement in sport has been remarkable so that makes our association even more exciting.”

Hublot was the first luxury brand to enter football in 2006, which has now proved to be an immense marketing and commercial success story. Hublot has also garnered success through its worldwide collaboration with Ferrari which debuted in 2011. Cricket provides a perfect geographic complement to football.

Football’s major events, including the FIFA World Cup™, and the most prestigious clubs (Juventus of Torino, Chelsea FC, SL Benfica or Ajax Amsterdam) bear the colours of Hublot, not to mention the many players who sport Hublot watches.
