Ritzbury has come forward as the main sponsor of Sri Lanka Squash Federation’s Junior National Squash Championships, to be held from 17 to 23 October at the Tamil Union sports complex. Over 300 players between the ages of eight and 18 years will compete in eighteen events, at this 22nd annual tournament, which Ritzbury has been supporting for the past three years.
Sri Lanka Squash Federation announced that the tournament is a major event in their calendar and will be used as a qualifier for national ranking. Presently there are over 500 squash players in Sri Lanka with the numbers growing. “The game of squash has seen a tremendous resurgence both in terms of public interest and popularity in Sri Lanka”, noted President Sri Lanka Squash Federation, Commodore Palitha Weerasinghe,VSP, psc. The tournament is open to players from all parts of the island and has gone beyond being a Colombo centric sport.
Ritzbury’s Senior Brand Manager Nilupul De Silva speaking on the sponsorship said that Ceylon Biscuits Ltd., and Ritzbury were delighted to continue its support of the tournament. He said, “We hope that the tournament will offer more opportunities and exposure for athletes to rise up to new levels” he noted.
CBL believes that through such tournaments youth can develop themselves to their full potential and contribute meaningfully to their communities. CBL’s Assistant General Manager Marketing, Nadeeja Karunatilleke said, “I am delighted that Ritzbury is supporting this aspirational sport and our wish is that Sri Lanka emerges as a major Squash playing nation in the region.”
Volleyball, cricket, football and track and field are some sports that receive tremendous backing from the Ceylon Biscuits Group. This year’s tournament has attracted large numbers of players with best performers being selected for national level sport.
