Former Maldivian President and incumbent Speaker Mohamed Nasheed
Former Maldivian President and incumbent Speaker Mohamed Nasheed yesterday called on the people of all countries in the world to visit Sri Lanka and assist the island nation.
It is noteworthy that the Maldivian Speaker made this request at the first instance of his arrival in Sri Lanka at the Katunayake International Airport.
A high level Maldivian delegation including former President and Vice President Faisal Naseem arrived in the island yesterday on the request of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. The large delegation also included Cabinet Ministers, Parliamentarians and a group of representatives of the Maldives ruling Democratic Party. The delegation is visiting the island to show solidarity in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday terrorist attacks. The visitors were extended a rousing welcome at the Katunayake international Airport. Parliamentarian Kavinda Jayawardena and Vice Chairman of the Airport and Aviation Services Company Priyantha Kariyapperuma were among those who greeted the delegation. Mohamed Nasheed said that a disaster to Sri Lanka was considered a calamity that happened to them and that the aim of his tour was to express support to Sri Lanka.
