To celebrate the goodness of dairy nutrition and National Nutrition Month Fonterra Brands Sri Lanka held its first ever Dairy Day.

The day was launched through a Facebook competition and the 13 families who won the experience had the opportunity to see how Anchor Newdale products go from local farm to products on retail shelves.

Fonterra Brands Sri Lanka Managing Director Leon Clement said, “We wanted to give our consumers a behind the scenes look at how we make our dairy products.”

The day started at Fonterra’s state-of-the-art Milk Chilling Centre in Gampaha and Stella Martinez Stave who attended the day with her husband and son said this experience was a first for her.  “We had never seen how milk is collected from the dairy farmers until we visited the Fonterra Milk Chilling Centre, and it was interesting to see the testing processes they have to go through before the milk is accepted for production.” The families then followed the milk from Gampaha to Fonterra’s liquid milk processing plant in Biyagama to see how the milk is made into yoghurt and milk products. They also saw the products being packaged and the food safety and quality tests that each batch of product goes through before it is released to be sold in stores nationwide.

Speaking about her experience, Surangi Wanigasooriya said, “We learnt many new things throughout the day and seeing these food safety and quality measures first-hand gave us even more confidence about the high standards of these products.”
