The Institute of Supply and Materials Management (ISMM) held its AGM on 28 March at the OPA Auditorium. The AGM was attended by a large gathering, the highest-ever recorded in the history of ISMM. 

Noel Wickremasinghe was elected as the new President. Two Vice-Presidents, Nalin Silva and Gayani de Alwis, and Treasurer S.A.C. Perera, were reelected. I.G. Perera and Sarath Gamage were elected as the other Vice President and the Secretary respectively.

Outgoing President Anil Ponweera gave an update about the achievements during his two year tenure and thanked the past Presidents, council members and the staff for the support extended during his term and wished the new leadership and council to do greater things for the institute. 

Wickremasinghe in his AGM address commended ISMM’s pioneering efforts in supply chain education in the country. “We should not rest on our laurels but ensure that we organise ourselves effectively to compete in this highly-competitive market place through value-added offerings,” he added.

The new President also elaborated the importance of benchmarking ISMM with other professional bodies to understand the gaps and take the supply chain profession to another level through high quality training and education programs for capacity building in the country.

A key feature of the newly-elected council is the election of two women members for the ISMM Council for 2015 for after a long lapse.

ISMM’s mission is to develop procurement and supply chain professionals through effective education, training and consultancy, innovative continuous professional development, applied research, being a forum for supply chain professionals, timely and effective policy intervention and upholding the code of ethics.
