On 14 June, Lyceum International School celebrated its 23rd anniversary at the Nugegoda school premises.
The celebration was led by Lyceum Group of International Schools Founder Mohan Lal Grero and Lyceum International School Nugegoda Coordinating Principal Kumari Grero and was held under the theme ‘Leaving footprints in the sands of time’.
Grero stated that they are all very proud of the accomplishments that the school has earned over the past 23 years.
“The school’s achievements in academic performance and extracurricular activities are manifold and highly commendable. Within the course of 23 years we are able to expand the school network to cover different regions of the country providing opportunities for children in remote areas to have access to quality education in English medium,” he elaborated.
The network of Lyceum schools has seven other branches aside from the ‘parent school’ in Nugegoda; Nuwara Eliya, Panadura, Wattala, Ratnapura, Anuradhapura, Kandana and Gampaha. There will be two new branches at Kurunegala and Bandarawela as well. The current student population of the Lyceum Group of Schools is 17,500, with an academic staff of 2,500.
The network provides the necessary infrastructure required for international standards in the teaching and learning environment. The Students are provided with education from both the National and Cambridge Boards, from Nursery to G.C.E. Advanced Level. From Grade 8 onwards, students are guided to follow either the National or Cambridge curriculum.
“These are the wonderful results of the collective efforts of our academic, administrative and support staff as well as our precious students and their parents as well. It is a triumph born of a team effort rather than an individual one. We express our sincere gratitude for all the work carried out by all the members of our family,” asserted Grero.
Performance Awards and tokens of gratitude were given as well to members of the academic, administrative and support staff who had served at Lyceum International School, Nugegoda for 15 years, 10 years and five years respectively. Addressing the students of the school at the celebration, Grero declared: “Within each of us we have the potential to succeed by using the abilities and talents which we have received from our birth. They are like untouched and unpolished gems. I started this school from scratch, built it up and dedicated it you; it is a place where the teachers cut and polish these gems, but you need to help them to do that.”
“Never forget your origin and your roots. Even though all of you study in the English medium and use modern technology, the moral values, passed down from generation to generation, and our religions are very important, because they teach us to live a good moral life. Therefore you must go from strength to strength with dedication and determination so that one day you will be able to serve our country,” Grero added.
