Vesak Day was celebrated at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Yangon on 29 April under the patronage of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Myanmar, and with the participation of the Sri Lankan community living in Myanmar and the Embassy staff. Around 100 devotees attended the celebrations.

The celebrations commenced in the morning of 29 April, with a  Bodhi Pooja by the Sri Lankan Theros in Myanmar, commemorating the Birth, Enlightenment, and the Maha Parinibbana of the Lord Buddha.  Then alms were offered to the Maha Sangha.

The Dhamma session was conducted by the Sri Lankan monks who are studying at the Mediation Centre in Myanmar with the chanting of pirith to invoke blessings of the noble triple gem.

The Embassy premises were decorated with Buddhist flags and colourful Vesak lanterns prepared by the Embassy staff.
