Mr and Mrs Dingiri Rabbit is a truly heart-touching story, one with so many layers of meaning and depth, and it depicts not only the physical adventure of a family moving house, but also an emotional journey as they leave their beloved home and begin another chapter in their lives. Written by Hasitha Adhikariarachchi and illustrated by Dilmi Amarasinghe, the lyrical wording for this tale is simple and effective, and provides a wonderful framework for the evocative and colourful illustrations that will at once delight and mesmerise young readers.

The premise of this story is that one day Mr and Mrs Dingiri Rabbit go to their beautiful forest garden in order to gather food for the rainy season, only to realise that they barely have enough to see them through the bad weather. Mr and Mrs Dingiri Rabbit refuse to be disheartened, even when they come to the realisation that they will have to leave their beloved forest dwelling in order to find another forest to make their home. They embark on an arduous and challenging journey in the pouring rain, unsure whether it will end the way they want it to. But their courage and faith in themselves gives them the determination and conviction to keep going and find something that is even more wonderful than what they have left behind.

Hasitha Adhikariarachchi is not only the writer of this story but also the owner of the publishing company behind its publication. At the moment, she lives in Sydney, Australia. At first, the circumstances of Mr and Mrs Dingiri Rabbit don’t seem to be particularly hopeful at all. Their forest garden has hardly any food, the rainy season is upon them and their friends and neighbours are already beginning to leave the forest. The last thing Mr and Mrs Dingiri Rabbit want to do is leave the forest home that they have loved and cherished for so long, but they recognise that their situation has changed and the time has come for them to embrace this change rather than be overwhelmed. Instead of being hopeless and scared, these determined and courageous rabbits resolve to change their lives for the better.

Behind this captivating narrative lies a beautiful and uplifting message, a message that we shouldn’t be afraid of change. There’s no doubt that change can seem frightening and unpredictable, and this is why younger and older readers alike can find solace and inspiration from Mr and Mrs Dingiri Rabbit’s story.

Change isn’t something to be fearful or scared of because it is just a part of life, and if everything always remained the same then we would never experience the wonderful opportunities and adventures that life has in store for us. Mr and Mrs Dingiri Rabbit believe that they can create a happy ending for themselves, and their adventures remind us that through perseverance and hard work we’re more than capable of doing the same for ourselves.
