Vellai Oya Estate
An invoice of BOPF sold through Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd. at this week’s auction realised an all-time record price of Rs. 800 per kg in respect of teas coming under the Western Medium category.
The price of Rs. 800 was not only the top-most price for Western Mediums but also the highest from among Western High Growns this week which is an unparalleled feat.
The estate manager Prasanna Premachandra maintains very high standards both in the fields and factory which has resulted in Vellai Oya being recognised as a producer of the finest liquoring teas. This estate is managed by Hatton Plantations Ltd, the successor to the upcountry estates of Watawala Plantations Plc, and comes under the purview of Sunshine Holdings Plc.
Carolina Estate
Two invoices of the grade PF1 from Carolina sold through the catalogue of Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd. realised an all-time Colombo Auction record price of Rs. 710 per kg which surpassed the previous record of Rs. 700 established also by Carolina at the previous week’s auction.
Both invoices were purchased by Uniworld Teas Ltd, a leading buyer of high quality teas. Carolina Estate is run by Robin Winter - Deputy General Manager and is now firmly established as the top-most factory producing CTC Medium Teas. This estate is managed by Hatton Plantations Ltd, the successor to the upcountry estates of Watawala Plantations Plc, and comes under the purview of Sunshine Holdings Plc.
Abbotsleigh Estate (Florence)
An invoice of fine quality PF1 grade from Abbotsleigh Estate selling under the ‘Florence’ garden mark realised an all-time Colombo auction record price of Rs. 760 per kg surpassing the previous record price of Rs. 730.
The tea was sold through the catalogue of Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd. and was purchased by Uniworld Tea Ltd, a leading contender for quality high grown teas at the Colombo auctions. This estate is managed by Suranga Dela and comes under Hatton Plantations Ltd, the successor to the upcountry estates of Watawala Plantations Plc, which comes under the purview of Sunshine Holdings Plc.
Avissawella Tea Factory (Sithaka)
An invoice of the OP1 grade from the Avissawella Tea Factory offered through Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd. and selling under the ‘Sithaka’ mark established an all-time Colombo auction record price of Rs. 1,250 per kg, bettering the previously held record price of Rs. 1,200.
This tea resembled a very high quality standard and was purchased by Imperial Teas Ltd. This factory is situated in the Seethawaka Export Processing Zone of the BOI and is managed by Chairman/Managing Director Lalith Liyanage of the much diversified RTS Holdings Group.
