Shawlands Estate establishes all-time record price



Shawlands Estate, Lunugala achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 2,150 per kg for an OP/OPA grade in the Uva Medium category at the weekly online tea auctions held on 16/17 August. 

This estate lies on the southern slopes of the Madulsima hill range at an elevation of 990 metres above sea level. Shawlands Tea Factory was constructed in the late 1930s and has undergone several renovations to meet international standards. 

The factory is Rainforest Alliance and ISO 22000:2018/9001:2015 certified for the Manufacture of Black Tea, and CQC certified. Shawlands Estate has also been awarded a two-star rating by the Sri Lanka Tea Board for Excellence in Good Organizing Practices and Excellence in Good Manufacturing Practices. Shawlands Estate was awarded one-star rating by the Guild of Fine Food UK at the Great Taste Awards 2022 for a FBOP grade. 

Shawlands Estate is managed by Hapugastenna Plantations PLC, an associate of Browns Power Holdings Ltd., under the stewardship of Asela Ratnayake.

Craighead Estate continues to better its achievements, secures yet another all-time record price 

Craighead Estate achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 2,350 per kg for a BOPFSp grade, surpassing its own record of Rs. 2,300 per kg for the same grade in the Western Medium category at the weekly e-Auctions held on 16/17 August. 

This tea garden, located in Nawalapitiya at an elevation of 800 metres above sea level, is bordered by the beautiful Gampola Valley to the East, the stunning Dolosbage Hills to the West, Adams Peak to the South and the Pidurutalagala Mountain range to the North. 

The factory is Rainforest Alliance and ISO: 22000:2018 Management System Certified for the Manufacture of Black Tea.

Craighead Estate is managed by Kahawatte Plantations under the stewardship of Director Plantations Chaminda Gunarathna, Manager Abhishek Samarakoon and assisted by Factory Manager K.G. Kudabanda.

Glenloch Estate sets all-time record price

Glenloch Estate situated in the Dimbula Agro-Climatic District achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 3,050 per kg for an FBOPF1 grade in the Western High Grown category at the weekly online tea auctions held on 16/17 August 2022. 

This Estate was established in the year 1917 and is currently under the management of distinguished tea producer M.T.M. Refai. This tea factory which is ISO22000:2018 and HACCP certified has an annual production of approximately 350,000 kg.

Dunsinane Estate surpasses own all-time record price for 3rd consecutive week

Dunsinane Estate situated in Punduloya achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 2,250 per kg for a PF1 grade surpassing its own record of Rs. 2,000 per kg for the same grade in the High Grown CTC category at the weekly online Tea Auctions held on 16/17 August. 

This Estate is situated in the Dimbula Planting district at an elevation of 1,400 metres above sea level and is Rainforest Alliance, ISO 22000 – food, safety and hygiene management standard certified.

Dunsinane Estate is managed by Elpitiya Plantations and comes under the stewardship of Asela Udumullage. 



Kamarangapitiya shines as it sets yet another all-time record

Kamarangapitiya Tea Factory situated in the Sabaragamuwa Province achieved yet another all-time record price of Rs. 6,300 per kg for a FBOPF grade at the weekly tea auctions held on 16/17 August. 

This prestigious tea processing centre is a subsidiary of Asiri Group which was founded 11 years ago.

Kamarangapitiya Tea Factory produces approximately 1 million kg of tea annually using the best quality green leaf obtained from lush fields atop the mountains in Pelmadulla, Rakwana and Balangoda. This factory has a green leaf handling capability of 15,000 kg per day.

This achievement was due to the diligence and dedication of Chairman Y.C. Weerasena, his eldest son Director Jayanga Weerasena and the team.



Great Western Estate establishes all-time record price

An all-time record price of Rs. 2,650 per kg was achieved for a Dust1 grade by Great Western Estate at the weekly online auctions held on 16/17 August. 

The Estate is ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 9001:2015 for its Quality Management System (QMS) and Rainforest Alliance certified.  

The tea fields on Great Western Estate are considered amongst Sri Lanka’s most innovative high grown tea estates, symbolising a unique brand of exceptional teas that continue to set new local and international benchmarks in terms of tea prices, quality, food safety as well as social and environmental sustainability in the Sri Lankan plantation industry. 

Great Western Estate is managed by Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC, a subsidiary of Hayleys Group of Companies, under the stewardship of Senior Manager Sarath Ranaweera.
