In a strategic move to foster innovation and drive agricultural transformation, the Bank of Ceylon (BOC) has forged a pioneering partnership with the Agriculture Drone Pilot Program.

This collaboration signifies BOC’s commitment to supporting initiatives that harness technology to empower farmers and revolutionise traditional farming practices.

The inaugural deployment of the first cohort of 100 Agriculture Drone Pilots commenced with a pilot drone demonstration operation in the vicinity of Nagolla Rajamaha Viharaya, situated in the North Western Province, on 23 April.

BOC said this event marks a significant milestone in modernising agricultural practices, harnessing the power of technology to enhance efficiency and productivity. Along with the Bank of Ceylon’s financial support and expertise the Agriculture Drone Pilot project is a collaborative effort between Kenilworth International Lanka Ltd., Managing Director Kavinda Dissanayake, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and the Ministry of Agriculture and Plantation Industries.

BOC recognises the pivotal role technology plays in modernising agriculture and enhancing the livelihoods of farmers. As a leading financial institution with a longstanding commitment to serving the agricultural sector, BOC brings both financial support and expertise to the partnership. Through tailored financing solutions and advisory services, BOC empowers farmers to invest in technology and innovation, facilitating the adoption of drones as a key component of modern farming practices.

In addition to empowering farmers with technology, BOC’s partnership with the Agriculture Drone Pilot Program aims to enhance access to markets for agricultural produce. By leveraging drone technology for crop monitoring and yield forecasting, farmers can improve the quality and quantity of their produce, thereby enhancing their competitiveness in local and international markets. BOC provides support through market linkages, value chain development, and trade finance solutions, enabling farmers to capitalise on new opportunities.

BOC’s partnership with the Agriculture Drone Pilot Program is part of its broader strategy to foster an innovation ecosystem that drives economic growth and social development.
