  • Introduces mobile application to help farmers

In another pioneering venture, Sri Lanka’s trend setter in agriculture, CIC Agri Businesses launched the CIC Digital Agri Hub mobile application, designed and developed to empower Sri Lanka’s farmers. The app aims to enhance productivity and efficiency, contributing towards the rapid development of the island’s agricultural economy.

This innovative platform will provide farmers with easy access to up to date agricultural information, modern technological insights, expert guidance, agro-climatic data, crop calendars, product recommendations, fertilizer packages, cultivation tips, seed and planting material, details and locations of all CIC Sales outlets. The app also offers a wide range of other services designed to support farmers in adopting modern practices.

Chief Guest at the event Peradeniya University Faculty of Agriculture Professor Buddhi Marabe commended CIC for the initiative taken in this direction.

“At a time when Sri Lanka is striving to jump on to the digitalisation bandwagon, it is commendable that CIC has taken this bold initiative to introduce a user-friendly app to the farmers.”

The Senior Professor was also of the view that many organisations globally and locally have been speaking of modernisation and digitalisation in recent times. However, he questioned “Have they walked the talk? Unfortunately, No. I have worked very closely with CIC in the past and during the time of my tenure as Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture we signed an MOU to work together for the mutual benefit of the two entities and I am very confident that the CIC leadership will be successful with this initiative and lead the way with this bold step that will help the farmers and contribute towards the growth of agriculture in Sri Lanka.” Speaking at the launch, CIC Agri Cluster Managing Director Waruna Madawanarachchi said: “Over the next few years, digitalisation will enable the creation of a more successful and technologically equipped agricultural community.

This application can play a pivotal role in increasing agricultural productivity and promoting development in the sector. CIC is proud to lead this digital transformation in Sri Lanka’s agriculture by integrating cutting-edge technology.”

The launch was attended by a distinguished group of experts from the agricultural sector, who welcomed the innovation and commended the initiative by CIC and expressed confidence that the app will play a significant role in shaping the future of Sri Lanka’s agricultural landscape.

CIC Agri Cluster is committed to ensuring the successful implementation of the CIC DigitalAgri Hub mobile application in order to drive the advancement of the Sri Lankan agricultural sector.
