CIC Agri Businesses, the island’s leading private sector fertiliser company, has introduced two bio fertiliser products for the tea and vegetable sector recently enhancing its organic product portfolio range.
The bio fertiliser products were released to the market following extensive tests carried out by the Tea Research Institute (TRI) where it was found to have the potential to minimise the use of inorganic fertiliser and enrich the soil. The initiative by CIC comes at a time when the Government is making every effort to shift from chemical fertiliser to organic fertiliser.
Bio fertilisers are specialty products that are used to provide plants nutrients with the help of beneficial micro-organisms. These products are successfully used in many countries to reduce the use of chemical fertilisers, enhance the efficiency of inorganic fertilisers and to prevent ecological damage to the soil.
Bio fertiliser consists of beneficial nitrogen-fixing and phosphorous solubilizing bacteria in a liquid formulation.
CIC Agri Businesses recently signed a MOU with Sri Biotech, a subsidiary of Hatton Plantations, to produce and distribute the two bio fertiliser products for the tea and vegetable sector.
