The Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan with the assistance of the Tea Board showcased Ceylon Tea at the Foodex Exhibition held in Tokyo, Japan which consisted of over 1,400 food-related stalls.
Sri Lankan Ambassador to Japan Sanjiv Gunasekara opened the Sri Lanka Tea stall with invited guests that included General Manager Purchasing for MOS Burger Franchise which operates over 1,700 restaurants worldwide. The Ambassador also participated at the Foodex Japan opening ceremony which was represented by ambassadors of over 25 countries.
The Sri Lanka pavilion included Dilmah Tea, George Steuarts Tea, Nelsons – Ranfur Tea, Jafferjee Brothers – Jaf Tea, Ceyem Tea and the Sri Lanka Tea Board stalls. All exhibitors made live interactive presentations of their many products. Multiple business to business meetings and over 600 inquiries were received during the four days of the exhibition by prospective retail chains, restaurants and distributors. The Tea Board stall hosted by mission staff and Japanese volunteers provided continuous tea tasting and educated visitors about Ceylon Tea. First Secretary (Commercial) Kapila J. Kumara coordinated the event.
