Lucky Kottawa Tea Factory which produces high quality tea was awarded the National Award for Excellence at the awards ceremony organised by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution to recognise the highest quality producers. The ceremony was held in Colombo recently.
Lucky Kottawa Tea Factory Chairman Lakshman Gamage received the award from Minister of Science, Technology and Research Sujeewa Senasinghe. Lucky Kottawa Tea Factory is constantly striving to provide the highest quality and quality products to its customers while maintaining the highest standards.
“This award presented by the Sri Lanka Standards Institution (SLSI) is a testament to the excellence of Lucky Kottawa,” said Lakshman Gamage. He also emphasised that this is a collective victory for himself, his staff, his tea suppliers and his customers. The Lucky Kottawa Tea Factory grinds about 250,000 kilos of tea leaves per month to produce 54,000 kilos as finished tea. They collaborate with thousands of small scale tea manufacturers. Gamage said that the specialty of this company is that it is the middlemen who buy the leaves from the tea small scale holders through their transport system without intermediaries. The factory also has a welfare society for all tea estate owners, providing scholarships, emergency disaster assistance and funeral aid to their children. Lucky Hiniduma, Lucky Meegahatenna, Lucky Pinnaduwa and Lucky Weerapana are the other tea factories owned by Lucky Tea Ltd. which benefit around 7,600 smallholders.
