Nelna Agri Development Ltd, a leading company in Sri Lanka’s agriculture sector, is targeting a record harvest of 1 million kilos of mangoes in the 2023/2024 mango season (November to April). Between 300,000 kg and 400,000 kg of mangoes out of the expected harvest are planned to be exported to countries such as the United States (US), France, Sweden, Singapore, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and the Maldives, thereby securing considerable foreign exchange revenue to Sri Lanka. At present, the highest market for Nelna mangoes is in the Maldives and Middle Eastern countries. They have also planned to launch many by-products using mangoes during the coming festive season.
Having cultivated mangoes on more than 750 acres of land in the Ratnapura and Monaragala Districts, Nelna Agri Development has become the largest mango planter in the country today. They produce mangoes with perfect taste and quality through environment and people-friendly methods. The Company makes a great contribution to uplifting the people in the dry zone and has provided employment opportunities for over 400 persons.
Nelna Agri Development has received many local and international quality certifications including the Global Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification and produces mangoes according to international standards. The related process is carried out under national and internationally recognised quality management systems.
“Making mangoes a major export crop that brings foreign exchange to Sri Lanka is one of the main objectives of Nelna Agri Development. Going beyond the traditional export crop cultivation, we are working to produce mangoes with perfect taste and quality. Our aim is to get a high yield of mangoes by using modern techniques. The fact that Nelna mangoes are in high demand both locally and internationally is proof of the high quality of our products,” said the Nelna Agri Development Directress Punya Nanayakkara.
