Norwood Tea Factory was the proud winner of the Star Award for Entrepreneurship Excellence in Manufacturing Sector, Large Category at the ‘State Star Awards 2019’ organised by the Department of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Promotion of the Ministry of Industries of the Central Province.
Norwood Tea Factory Senior Assistant Manager Supun Seneviratne received the award at the gala event attended by Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage and held recently in Kandy.
The Norwood Tea Factory, managed by Bogawanthalawa Tea Company, was established in 1930. Surrounded by a virgin forest patch of Castle Rea reserve, the estate has a unique climate suitable for growing high quality tea.
Norwood tea, produced by high quality fresh leaves from these estates has a high demand locally as well as internationally. Norwood has earned a name for black tea, green tea and organic tea in the world’s renowned tea auctions. The green tea manufacturing plant with modern technology was launched in 2015. Norwood tea has proved its quality by obtaining ISO:22000, Rainforest Alliance certification and Fair Trade certificate.
M.F. Majeed who is the Director – Operations and Special Projects of Bogawanthalawa Tea Company, is the Head of Norwood Tea Factory. Majeed openly expressed his gratitude to all the staff for their dedication and contribution to all these achievements.
