President Ranil Wickremesinghe last week convened a meeting with key industrialists to deliberate on strategies for enhancing the coconut industry’s contribution to the economic development.
During the meeting held at the Presidential Secretariat, he stressed the significance of boosting coconut cultivation and associated industries to drive competitive exports. A key point of the discussion was the establishment of the National Chamber of Coconut Industry Sri Lanka, aimed at addressing challenges and concerns within the coconut sector.
Wickremesinghe led a comprehensive examination of the issues affecting the industry, taking into account the input and feedback from industry stakeholders present.
Highlighting the need for concerted efforts, the President stressed the importance of maximising productivity in the coconut industry while ensuring the efficient utilisation of available land resources.
Secretary to the President Saman Ekanayake, Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardena, along with ministry secretaries, heads and officials from relevant institutions, participated in the discussion.
