Record prices galore at tea auctions

Kotiyagalla Estate re-establishes all-time record price

Kotiyagalla Estate located in Bogawantalawa, managed by Bogawantalawa Tea Estates, re-established an all-time record price of Rs. 1,140 per kg for a FGS1 grade in the Western High category at the tea auction held on 5 April. This price surpassed their own record of Rs. 1,020 per kg for the same grade, which they obtained at last week’s tea auction. This invoice of tea was purchased by Uniworld Teas Ltd., and was marketed and sold by tea broker John Keells PLC.

 

 

Venture Estate establishes two more all-time records

Venture Estate renowned for producing quality teas, yet again obtained two all – time record prices at this week’s tea auction held on 5 April, by achieving an attractive price of Rs. 1,850 per kg for an OP grade, surpassing their own record which was established at Rs. 1,500 per kg last week. The estate also achieved a price of Rs. 2,100 per kg for an OP1 grade in the Western High Grown category. These lines of tea were purchased by Ceylon Tea Marketing Ltd., and Ceyem Commodities Ltd., respectively.  Venture Estate comes under the purview of Madulsima Plantations PLC and is marketed and sold by John Keells PLC.

 

 

Yet another all-time record price for Hingalgoda Tea Factory

Hingalgoda Tea Factory achieved yet another all -time record this week for a PF1 grade in the Low Grown CTC category by establishing a price of Rs. 1350 per kg at this week’s tea auction held on 5 April. This is the 4th consecutive week the estate has acquired all-time record prices at the auction.  This invoice of tea was purchased by Stassen Exports Ltd., on behalf of Beta Tea. Hingalgoda Tea Factory is managed by Tea Small Holder Factories PLC and the sale was conducted by tea broker John Keells PLC

 

 

Two all-time record prices for Pedro Estate

Pedro Estate situated in Nuwara Eliya, which is renowned for producing teas with delicate liquoring characteristics established two all- time record prices at the tea auction held this week. Attractive prices of Rs. 1,800 per kg for a BOP grade and Rs. 2,350 per kg for a PEKOE1 grade was achieved under the “Lovers Leap” mark.

Pedro Estate is managed by Kelani Valley Plantations PLC, and these lines of tea were purchased by Tea- Link Colombo Ltd., and Swiss Singapore Overseas Enterprises Ltd., respectively. These invoices of tea were marketed and sold by John Keells PLC.

 

Alagalla Tea Factory re-establishes all-time record price 

Alagalla Tea Factory Located in Alagalla re-established an all-time record price at the tea auction held this week by securing a price of Rs. 680 per kg for an OF grade under the “Peakwatte” mark in the CTC Low Grown category surpassing their previous record of Rs. 630 which was obtained at last week’s tea auction. This line of tea was purchased by Vintage Teas Ltd., and Expoteas Ceylon Ltd. Alagalla Tea Factory is managed by Alagalla Group and this invoice of tea was marketed and sold by John Keells PLC.

 

All-time record price for New Peacock Tea Factory

New Peacock Tea Factory situated in Pussellawa established an all-time record price of Rs. 1,060 per kg for a PF1 grade in the Medium Grown CTC category at this week’s tea auction held on 5 April. This line of tea was purchased by Tea- Link Colombo Ltd.New Peacock Tea Factory is owned by Elpitiya Plantations PLC, under the management of Aitken Spence Plantations and this invoice of tea was marketed and sold by John Keells PLC.

 

 

Delta Estate re-establishes all-time record price

Delta Estate located in Pupuressa, re- established an all- time record price at this week’s tea auction by securing a price of Rs. 800 per kg for a BP1 grade, surpassing their record price of Rs. 780 per kg for the same grade achieved at last week’s tea auction. This line of tea was purchased by Lanka Leaf. Delta Estate comes under the purview of Pussellawa Plantations Limited and the selling broker was John Keells PLC.

 

 

Ulugedara Tea Factory sets all-time record price

Ulugedara Tea Factory located at Attampitiya, established an all-time record price of Rs. 1,020 per kg for a PF1 grade in the High Grown CTC category at this week’s tea auction held on 5 April. This line of tea was purchased by Jafferjee Bros. Ulugedara Tea Factory is managed by Ranaya Teas Ltd., and the line of tea was marketed and sold by John Keells PLC.

 

Gunawardana Tea Factory creates history 

Gunawardana Tea Factory of Akuressa has achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 1,200 per kg on a BM grade in the Off Grade category, which was sold at the E-auction held on 4-5 April. 

Gunawardana Tea Factory is eminent for manufacturing high-quality, award-winning teas and has the distinction of achieving top prices more often at weekly Tea Auctions. This is the third consecutive occasion this factory has achieved an all-time record price by breaking its own previous record prices (sale of 22/23 March – Price Rs. 980 and sale of 29/30 March – Price Rs. 1,080) and this has occurred for the first time in the history of the tea industry. 

Furthermore, the 2nd and 3rd top prices as well has been successfully achieved by Gunawardana Tea Factory at this week’s Tea Auction. 

This Tea Factory is managed by the Proprietor J.J. Gunawardana. 

This line of tea was auctioned by Mercantile Produce Brokers Ltd., and purchased by Ahamed Tea Ltd.

 

Mahaliyadda Tea Factory secure all-time record price

At this week’s tea auction held on 4 April, an invoice of BOPFSP Grade from Mahaliyadda Tea Factory - Udugama secured an all-time Colombo tea auction record price of Rs. 1850 per kg in the Low Grown Category.

This tea was purchased by Ceylon Tea Marketing Ltd., a leading exporter of quality tea. This invoice was sold through the catalogue of Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd.

Mahaliyadda is one of the largest tea factories in the Udugama area and is managed by Chanaka Seneviratna.

 

Record Price for Wewesse Estate OP 

At the Colombo Tea Auctions held on 4-5 April an invoice produced from Wewesse Estate, Badulla achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 1,800 per kg for Uva Medium OP grade this week. 

The previous record for this grade was Rs. 1,650 per kg. 

This tea was purchased by Mabroc Teas Ltd.  

Balangoda Estate belongs to Balangoda Plantations PLC, a member of the Melsta Corp. and this factory under the supervision of the Manager Chamith Arthur.

This tea was successfully marketed by Asia Siyaka Commodities PLC

 

 

Kelani Estate establishes all-time record price

Kelani Tea Factory situated in Yatiyanthota managed by Hayleys PLC achieved an all time record price of Rs. 1,550 per kg for DUST1 grade in the low grown category at the weekly tea auction held on 4-5 April.

This tea was purchased by Unilever Lipton Ceylon Ltd., and the sale was conducted by Mercantile Produce Brokers Ltd. 

 

Aislaby Estate achieves all-time record price

Aislaby Estate, situated at an elevation of 4,200 ft in Bandarawela achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 2,100 per kg for a FBOP grade in the Uva High Region at this week’s Colombo Tea Auctions held on 4/5 April. Aislaby is world renowned for manufacturing high-quality ‘Uva’ teas with an abundance of flavour and aroma, especially during the quality season.

This line of tea was sold and marketed by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. 

Aislaby Estate located in Bandarawela is ISO 22000:2018 and Rainforest Alliance certified.  

This Estate is managed by Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC under the stewardship of the Manager Manoj Ramdas who were instrumental in achieving this feat.

 

Abbotsleigh Estate establishes all-time record price

Abbotsleigh Estate under the garden mark ‘Florence’ achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 1,000 per kg for a PF1 grade in the CTC High Grown category at the weekly tea auctions held on 4/5 April 2022. 

The present tea factory was built in 1922 and is situated at an elevation of 1,330 metres above mean sea level. The Estate which is situated in the Dimbula planting district in Dickoya is renowned for manufacturing high quality CTC teas and is the largest CTC tea factory in the country. 

Abbotsleigh Estate is managed by Hatton Plantations PLC under the stewardship of Suranga Dela.  This line of tea was sold and marketed by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.

 

Muswenna Tea Factory achieves alltime record price

Muswenna Tea Factory in Imaduwa, Galle achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 5,900 per kg for a FBOPFEXSP1 grade in the Premium Flowery category at the weekly tea auctions held on 4/5 April 2022.

The estate/factory is owned and managed by distinguished tea producer R. G. Jinadasa, whose passion for tea manufacture has alleviated its product and processes to maintain the highest standards, which accounts for Muswenna teas consistently being sold at premium prices amongst the private factories manufacturing and selling commercial quantities of orthodox leafy grades in the Low Grown Region. 

Jinadasa has over 4 decades of experience in the tea industry starting as a Tea Inspector for the Sri Lanka Tea Board. He is competently assisted by his son - Director, Madushanka Malith and experienced factory executive Sisira Chinthaka who were instrumental in achieving this feat. 

Muswenna Tea Factory is ISO 22000:2018, HACCP and GMP certified and has an annual production of approximately 450,000 kg.  This line of tea was exclusively sold and marketed by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. 

 

 

Queensberry Estate sets two all-time record prices

Queensberry Estate situated in the Dimbula agro climatic district achieved all-time record prices for two grades in the Western High Grown category at the weekly online tea auctions held on 4/5 April 2022. 

BOPSp Grade recorded a price of Rs. 1,500 per kg and FBOP Grade recorded a price of Rs. 2,000 per kg.

This Estate is situated at an elevation of 1,300 metres above sea level and has maintained consistent standards over the years with ISO 22000:2018 and Rainforest Alliance certification in manufacturing high-quality orthodox leafy teas in the respective region. 

Queensberry Estate is managed by Kahawatte Plantation PLC under the stewardship of Director Plantations, Chaminda Gunarathna and Estate Manager, Prageeth Wanigasekera. 

This line of tea was exclusively sold and marketed by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.

 

 

Delmar Estate continues to excel at Colombo Tea Auctions

Delmar Estate achieved yet another all-time record price of Rs. 1,300 per kg for a BOPSP grade in the Uda Pussellawa Region at the weekly tea auctions held on 4/5 April 2022, demonstrating their outstanding ability to go above and beyond as they continue to manufacture high quality ‘Ceylon Tea.’ 

This line of tea was marketed by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.

Delmar Estate is Rainforest Alliance certified and is managed by Udapussellawa Plantations PLC under the stewardship of Shamil Perera, an associate of Browns Power Holdings Ltd.

 

 

Blairlomond Estate achieves all-time record price

Blairlomond Estate achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 2,000 per kg for a FBOP grade in the Uda Pussellawa Region at the weekly tea auctions held on 4/5 April 2022. 

This Estate is Rainforest Alliance certified and the estate is managed by Udapussellawa Plantations PLC under the stewardship of Amila Udana Weerasinghe, an associate of Browns Power Holdings Ltd.

This line of tea was exclusively sold and marketed by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.

 

 

Glenanore Estate shines again with two all-time record prices

Glenanore Estate showcased their outstanding capabilities in manufacturing the highest quality of ‘Ceylon Tea’ by achieving all-time record prices yet again, for the third consecutive week in the Uva High Grown Region at Colombo Tea Auctions held on 4/5 April 2022.

They were OP1 Grade recorded a price of Rs. 2,400 per kg and OP Grade recorded a price of Rs. 1,950 per kg.Glenanore Estate is ISO 22000:2018 and HACCP certified, and is managed by Agarapatana Plantations Limited under the stewardship of Senior Manager, Gayan Wijesekara.

Senhora Synergies Group excels with another five all-time record prices

Senhora Synergies Group showcased their outstanding capabilities yet again in manufacturing high quality ‘Ceylon Tea’ by achieving another five all-time record prices proceeding the six they achieved the previous week in the Western Medium and Low Grown regions at the weekly tea auctions held on 4/5 April 2022.

The commitment by the young and energetic teams at the respective factories and the encouragement by the management was the enabling factor for these remarkable achievements. Specific sector requirements deliberated at the weekly tea evaluation sessions at the Broker’s office have facilitated the understanding of the market dynamics, which has enabled the production of high-quality teas.

Demodera Estate achieves all-time record price

Demodera Estate achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 2,100 per kg for a BOP1 grade in the Uva Medium Region at the weekly tea auctions held on 4/5 April 2022. 

This line of tea was sold and marketed by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.

Demodera Factory is situated at an elevation of 871 metres in the vicinity of world renowned ‘Demodera Loop’ an engineering marvel of Sri Lanka. Demodera Estate is reputed for manufacturing high-quality tea and is Rainforest Alliance certified. 

Hapugastenne Plantations PLC, an associate of Browns Power Holdings Ltd, is the managing company of Demodera Estate under the stewardship of Group Manager, Nelantha Silva.

 

 

New Peacock Estate sets all-time record surpassing own record

New Peacock Estate established an all-time record for a CTC Medium Grown PF1 grade at Rs. 1,060 per kg at the weekly auctions conducted on the 4/5 April 2022 surpassing their own record achieved at the previous week’s auctions. 

This line of tea was sold and marketed by the Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.

New Peacock Estate state-of- the-art tea processing centre has installed a new fully-automated 2nd CTC line at a cost of Rs.75 million in the year 2021 to manufacture one million kilogrammes of CTC tea per annum. The total extent of the estate is 535.73 hectares, out of which 270.74 is VP tea, which has recorded an all-time high yield of 3,008 kilogrammes per hectare in the 2014/15 season

The Factory is ISO 22000:2018 certified for food quality standards and has obtained Rainforest Alliance certification. New Peacock is the first estate belonging to a Regional Plantation Company to generate 98 Kw of solar electricity using factory rooftop.

This estate is managed by Elpitiya Plantations PLC under the stewardship of veteran planter and General Manager Senarath Pahathkumbura.

 

 

Tillyrie Estate achieves all-time record price

Tillyrie Estate achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 1,350 per kg for a BOPF grade in the Western High Grown Region at the Colombo Tea Auctions held on 4/5 April 2022. 

Tillyrie Estate is amongst the top ranked tea gardens in the Western Region and is ISO 22000:2005 and Rainforest Alliance certified. A revenue sharing plucking model for its sprawling extent of 159 hectares with 83% VP clone has assisted them to procure high-quality raw materials enabling them to manufacture exceptional tea.

This feat was achieved under the stewardship of Lakshitha John, Manager Tillyrie Estate.This Estate is managed by Kelani Valley Plantations PLC, a subsidiary of a leading conglomerate in the country, Hayleys PLC. 

This line of tea was sold and marketed by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.

 

High Forest Estate achieves all-time record price

High Forest Estate achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 1,120 per kg for a BOPF grade in the Uda Pussellawa Region at this week’s tea auctions held on 4/5 April 2022. 

The factory which was built in 1938 is situated on a hillock where it benefits from the winds that blow across the range from both the North-East and South-West. This Estate is situated at an elevation 5,300 metres above mean sea level. The factory at present produces around 850,000 kg of made per annum.

High Forest Estate is managed by Maturata Plantations PLC, an associate of Browns Power Holdings Ltd, under the stewardship of Chief Operating Officer, Tharindu Wickremasinghe and Estate Superintendent Waruna Wijekoon who were instrumental in achieving this feat. 

High Forest Estate is ISO 22000:2018, HACCP, GMP and Rainforest Alliance ccertified.

Bearwell Estate sets all-time record price

Bearwell Estate achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 1,900 per kg for a Pekoe grade in the Western High Grown Region at the Colombo Tea Auctions held on 4/5 April 2022. 

This Estate is ISO 22000:2018, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 14064-1:2018 and Rainforest Alliance ccertified.  

Bearwell Estate is managed by Talawakelle Tea Estates PLC, a subsidiary of Hayleys PLC under the stewardship of Regional General Manager, Eranga Egodawela who was instrumental in achieving this feat. 

This line of tea was sold and marketed by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd.
