The Sri Lanka Agripreneurs’ Forum (SLAF), in partnership with Hatton National Bank (HNB) and Frigortec Germany, successfully conducted two stakeholder forums aimed at companies involved in the grain and spice sectors.

The forums focused on innovative techniques for grain cooling and bulk storage solutions and were led by the experienced Dr. Claus Braunbeck from Germany.

The events took place on 18 and 19 June at HNB Towers in Colombo and Hotel Sudu Araliya in Polonnaruwa, respectively. Both sessions were well-attended, running from 3 to 5 p.m each day, and featured robust discussions on minimising post-harvest loss of grains and optimising storage methods. Dr. Braunbeck provided invaluable insights into controlling temperature and humidity through low-cost solutions while also addressing methods to minimise pest damage.

These advanced storage techniques, which have been rigorously tested, have shown exceptional results, proving their effectiveness within the Sri Lankan climate. The forums underscored the potential of these solutions to revolutionise grain and spice storage, significantly reducing losses and improving the overall quality of stored produce.

The forums mark yet another milestone in SLAF’s ongoing efforts to support the agribusiness sector in Sri Lanka, fostering innovation and sustainability. SLAF, HNB, and Frigortec Germany remain committed to driving forward-thinking solutions that empower local agripreneurs and contribute to the growth and development of the agripreneurial industry in Sri Lanka.
