St. James achieved an all-time record price of Rs. 1,550 per kg for a PEK1 grade in the Uva Medium Grown elevational category at the weekly Tea Auctions held on 15 August.
Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. was the marketer of this line of tea.
Malwatta Valley Plantations Plc, under whose purview St. James comes, is managed by Chaminda Perera. St. James is located at an elevation of 1,230 metres above sea level in Hali Ella and was commissioned in 1934. It is synonymous with Uva teas and has continuously produced high quality seasonal teas during the Uva season. This factory, which is certified under the Ethical Tea Partnership (ETP) and also ISO 22000:2005 Management System Certified for Manufacture of Black Tea, Food Sector, has an annual production capacity of 1.2 million kg.
