Uneven quality, a drop in demand prices for seasonal Uva’s declining for the second consecutive week. Select invoices of some specialty grades attracted special inquiry and prices were dearer.
St. James teas made in Dickwella Factory in Hali Ella, achieved a record price once again and this time it was for the BOPF grade which sold at Rs. 2,700 per kg at the Colombo Tea Auction of 23/24 August. Interestingly, previous record was also held by the same factory. The record price for this Uva Medium BOPF grade was paid by Tea-Link Colombo Ltd. and marketed by Asia Siyaka Commodities PLC.
Dickwella Tea factory is part of Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC. Credit for this achievement should go to the manufacturing team lead by master tea maker A.M. Sahajahan and Regional Manager Chaminda Perera who have able mobilised their teams to keep producing high quality teas throughout this Uva quality season.
