At this week’s Ex-Estate Tea Auction, an invoice from Strathdon Tea Factory, Hatton, secured an all-time Colombo Tea Auction record price for a CTC Medium BP1 of Rs. 690, which bettered the previous record of Rs. 670, also held by the same factory.
This tea was purchased by George Steuart Teas Ltd, amid stiff competition from several other buyers i.e. Tea Trends Ceylon Ltd. and McCoy Teas Ceylon Ltd, and was sold through the catalogue of Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd.
Strathdon is an estate that comes under the purview of Hatton Plantations Plc and is one of their largest and most modern tea manufacturing facilities which has recently seen vast improvements made to its plant and machinery. Its Estate Senior Manager Kapila Sumanaratne maintains that the quality drive initiated by him is now being recognised by some of the high-end international markets across the Middle Eastern region, Russia and the Far East.
