Morawakkorale Tea Factory situated in Kotapola in the Matara District established an all-time record price for a BOP1A Grade in the Low Grown catalogue selling at Rs. 680 per kilogramme - surpassing the previous all-time record price of Rs. 630 - at the weekly tea auction held on 7 March.
The invoice was purchased by May Company Ceylon Ltd.
Morawakkorale is managed by Morawakkorale Tea Producers Co-operative Society Ltd, Kotapola. This factory has been producing good quality orthodox teas, which have been attracting good prices at the Colombo tea auctions. The factory has a smallholder base of 5,000 supplying green leaf direct to the factory.
This factory has also achieved six top prices so far for BOP1A grade in 2017. The sale was conducted by broker John Keells Plc.
