The Alltech’s 2011 Asia Pacific Lecture Tour The Game Changers: Creative Concepts for Agribusiness’ was conducted yesterday in Colombo imparting insights to innovations and technological trends.
Alltech is a global animal health company headquartered in Nicholasville with a presence in 128 countries. Its Game Changers focuses on creative concepts for agribusiness to respond to relentless commoditization and to innovate for a greener future.
Colombo’s event was part of the second leg of Alltech’s annual Asia Pacific lecture tour which began on September 2011 in Auckland, New Zealand visiting locations throughout the Pacific Rim and South East Asia before concluding in South Asia on November 17th. The Alltech’s lecture tour is celebrating its 24th anniversary this year.
The Asia Pacific Lecture Tour will head to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Singapore on November 8th and to Surabaya, Indonesia and Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam on Wednesday. By November 14th it is expected to cover cities such as Manila, Tokyo, Seoul, and three cities in China – Shenyang, Zhengzhou and Hefei. “At key moments in time, dramatic events unfold, visionary thinkers appear, innovations break through and the existence of mankind can change direction in an instant. The Game Changers: Creative Concepts for Agribusiness” is dedicated to identifying these pivotal moments, changing the way society will address and overcome the challenges faced by the agriculture industry,” Alltech’s founder and president Dr. Pearse Lyons was quoted as saying via a video presentation. “Innovations have brought us success, better disease control, lower infant mortality and longer lives but this also presents us with a challenge,” he said. “We need to adopt new technologies at a faster pace and communicate in a way which we never have before. This is a significant time for change in our industry, it is about making things happen and this is the game changer,” Dr. Lyons told the Colombo lecture held at Taj Samudra. It was pointed out that as the global population increases from 7 billion in 2011 to a predicted 9.3 billion by 2050, it will be essential for the agricultural and animal health industries to find the balance between sustainable food production, production of energy and protection of resources while satisfying the consumer demands of this burgeoning population.
Alltech presented the possibilities that lie within its core philosophy – the ACE Principle, and examined strategies for improving the performance of the animal while satisfying the consumer and protecting the environment.
At the Colombo lecture experts who spoke included Alltech Asia Pacific Director Matthew Smith who focused on The Game Changers’ Key Account Technical Services Manager Dr. Alison Leary who dealt on Game changing strategies for performance and profitability, Research Laboratory Coordinator Dr. Richard Murphy on “practical solutions for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges” and Alzyme SSF global champion Paulo Rigolin on “performance or profitability: are they really lined.”
University of Kentucky, College of Agriculture and Department of Animal and Food Sciences recently inducted Dr. Lyons into its Hall of Fame for his outstanding contribution.
