In an effort to strengthen the farming community, the Agriculture SBU of Brown & Company PLC handed over a Browns TAFE tractor and a Rotavator to the ‘Farm Mechanisation Training Centre’ in Anuradhapura, which is governed by to the Department of Agriculture.
Browns TAFE leads the Sri Lankan tractor industry with great appearance, performance, assurance of quality and fuel efficiency. With the objective of enhancing training and development amid the farming community, Browns TAFE was handed over to FMTC.
“I commend the initiative taken by Brown & Company PLC to uplift agriculture in the outskirts and introduce new technology to the existing farming community. I appreciate the contribution made by a private sector organisation towards enriching the farmers with the collaboration of Department of Agriculture,” said Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Minister of Agriculture.
Earlier this year, Browns signed a MoU with FMTC, Anuradhapura to facilitate providing technical knowledge and training to the local farming community through ‘Browns FMTC Govi Nena Pahana,’ a three day residential workshop to educate the farmers on proper usage of Four wheel tractors and other farm equipment; thus empowering Sri Lankan farmers to work towards increased farm productivity, prosperity and profits.
“We expect to revolutionise the Sri Lankan agriculture with the introduction of new technology. We appreciate the effort of Browns to support farming. We have taken steps to introduce subject matter officers who will promote agri machinery technology to farmers, thereby supporting them to reap better benefits,” said Director General of Agriculture Dr. Rohan Wijekoon.
This rewarding partnership between Browns Agriculture SBU and the Department of Agriculture is intended to facilitate the farming community with a procedure that would increase their productivity. Both Browns and FTMC will take effective measures to impart valuable practical solutions to farmers.
“As a result of the MoU signed between Browns and FMTC, the farmers, mechanics, university students, agri students and others who are involved in agricultural activities will be benefited. It is a great opportunity for Browns to get involved in elevating the local agriculture in to the next level. As the pioneers in agriculture mechanisation of Sri Lanka, with this CSR initiative we are planning to educate farmers on operating agro-appliances which will consequently help them to improve their productivity and prosperity. We consider this as the beginning of a long lasting relationship with the Department of Agriculture in contributing for the betterment of Sri Lankan farmer community and yet another remarkable step by Browns to enhance Sri Lankan Agriculture Industry,” said Brown & Company Senior Vice President – Agriculture/Battery/ Porcelain and New Business Panduka Weerasinghe.
