A paddy farmer in Mannar, a sugarcane farmer in Hingurana or an onion farmer in Jaffna has one thing in common. They depend on their agriculture equipment for better yields. To them, their tractors and harvesters are more than just farm equipment – they are their trusted friends, key to their prosperity, expectations and hopes.
The first step towards agro mechanisation in Sri Lanka was taken when Browns brought down the first tractor from Massey Ferguson taking the entire farming concept to a different level. Since then Browns has become a household name as a provider of best quality farming solutions to customers; thus empowering the Sri Lankan farmers to work towards increased farm productivity, prosperity and profits. Today, Browns boasts of spearheading the agriculture sector in Sri Lanka.
The history of Browns is a rich journey through the times; serving three generations of customers across the country. As one of the most trusted and respected conglomerates. Over 60 international brands trade under the Browns’ umbrella.
“Every day the rhythm of farming is the aspiration of our team and they are tuned to the needs and desires of every farmer who uses our products,” Panduka Weerasingha, Senior Vice President Agriculture/Battery/Porcelain & New Business explains how the enthusiasm is kept high among the dedicated team.
Browns Agriculture SBU is the sole distributor for Massey Ferguson and TAFE four wheel tractors. TAFE being the successor is equipped with well proven hydraulic linkage that makes TAFE the most technologically advanced most fuel efficient tractor available in the market today. Modern design and the attractive outer appearance gives TAFE the proud and resilient look which any customer would want to see in its tractor.
Browns Agriculture SBU is well known for adding value to its products continuously; offering registration of the tractor free of charge along with a tractor insurance cover. “Once again TAFE proves the convenience it gives the customer, through the easily available spare parts throughout the country, easy payment schemes available for TAFE customers within their reach any time they wish. In addition, all TAFE customers have the privilege of enjoying an excellent after sales service from a specialised and well trained service team throughout the year,” he added.
Furthermore, as a CSR initiative, Browns Agriculture division conducts free service campaigns across the island. Rendering a yeoman service on behalf of the country’s agriculture sector for over a century, Browns has taken many steps to upgrade the knowledge of the farmers of the country to better the productivity and progress of the agricultural sector.
Considering the importance of the farming community to build a richer nation, Browns Agriculture SBU recently took the initiative to conduct training sessions for the students of Sri Lanka Schools of Agriculture who will be the future of Sri Lankan agriculture industry. The training includes practical sessions as well as theoretical sessions.
Also Browns got involved in elevating the local agriculture in to the next level through ‘Browns FMTC Govi Nena Pahana,’ a three-day program to educate farmers on operating agro-appliances which will consequently help them to improve their productivity and prosperity. This is the beginning of a long lasting relationship with the Agriculture Department in contributing for the betterment of the Sri Lankan farmer community and yet another remarkable step by Browns Agriculture SBU to enhance the Sri Lankan agriculture industry.
The Technical Workshop is headed by a well experienced technical manager and the crew and services could be obtained by any corporate or plantation, who can contact it directly and get their tractors repaired. Currently these service campaigns are conducted in most of the areas island wide.
“Our relationship with customers goes beyond mere customer satisfaction. Through our unmatched after sales service we look after them and build ever lasting relationships which takes our products to many a generations. Now we are in the process of linking the entire network as a star service hub to enhance the level of services as adding value is the key to customer delight,” Weerasinghe said.
It is no surprise that such excellent service is recognised and rewarded. In 2010 TAFE 45 DI was recognised as one of the top 10 brands in the product category at SLIM Brand Excellence 2010 organised by the Sri Lanka Institute of Marketing.
In 2011 Browns Agriculture Division was rewarded with the Swarna Lanka Award for the unmatched contribution towards Sri Lankan agriculture and also won the Mass Lanka Award 2011, which signifies the dedication and commitment of Browns Agriculture in uplifting the lives of the Sri Lankan farmer community by introducing world class agricultural technology to Sri Lanka. TAFE 45DI won the coveted Silver Award at the National Agri Business Awards 2011 by the National Agribusiness Council, which is affiliated with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
Proving itself for the second time Browns TAFE won the coveted Gold Award at the National Agri Business Awards 2013 for the second consecutive year organised by the National Agribusiness Council, which is affiliated with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
Weerasingha said: “We are happy to announce that Browns TAFE was rewarded with the Gold Award as it scored the highest points among other brands. We replicated the same passion, dedication and attention to detail that we display in competing in the marketplace when we had to showcase these successes to the Panel of Judges. To win this accolade is a powerful endorsement and evidence for existing customers, potential customers, dealers, suppliers, the media of TAFE’s brilliant status. Our marketing and promotional activity, brand innovations and service achievements spoke for themselves. We have thus been able to win multiple awards year after year, proving the exceptional performance of TAFE.”
Such distinctions and recognition only proves that Browns TAFE is the pioneer in the four wheel tractor industry and is a much-loved brand among the farming community.
