The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) recently seized a stock of expired pesticides which were stocked in Thampamuwa Govi Jana Sewa Office, Vavuniya.
The estimated value of this stock is valued at around Rs. 300,000 and CAA Director General J.M.A Douglas stated that there were 500 packets and bottles of pesticides which were imported by two well-known companies in Sri Lanka.
Vavuniya District Secretary M.K Bandula Harischandra received a number of complaints about this expired stock from farmers in Vavuniya and CAA Vavuniya District inspection officers conducted the inspection following the complaints.
Yesterday the CAA special inspection unit discovered 2,000kg of red rice from Maligawatte which was unsuitable for human consumption. The inspection was launched after the CAA received a complaint.
Meanwhile, the Mahara Magistrate ordered yesterday to confiscate another stock of 27,000kg red rice seized by the CAA from Peliyagoda and the Magistrate asked the store manager to pay a fine of Rs.100,000.
