Calton Sweet House promotes rice flour mixed short eats

Gampaha District Parliamentarian and Consultant Community Physician Sudharshani Fernandopulle lauded the service of Calton Sweet House for the promotion of rice flour mixed short eats among the public. Calton Sweet House won third place in the Western Province in

terms of providing high quality bakery products including short eats. She was speaking at the launch of number of short eats introduced by the company using more than 20% rice flour.

The company has become one of the few bakery products manufacturers who use more than 20% rice flour in their products to promote rice flour products in the country in keeping with the Mahinda Chinthanaya policy frame work.

Parliamentarian Fernandopulle, who has served many areas in the country as a Medical Officer of Health, said the rice flour mixed short eats and bakery products will be more nutritious than bakery products made of wheat flour. She was of the opinion that Sri Lanka does not get high quality wheat flour.

“The wheat flour we get is of inferior quality and lack many essential nutrient factors,” she said. Speaking on the occasion Calton Group Chairman Deshamanya D. Somachandra de Silva urged the bakers to introduce more and more rice flour in their products. He said that his company was ready to reduce the prices of all products made of rice flour if all other bakers reach an agreement.

He was of the opinion that the price of bakery products made of rice flour could be reduced as rice flour is cheaper than wheat flour.  

D. Somachandra thanked the Government led by President Mahinda Rajapaksa for extending assistance to local industries.

Calton Sweet House Company of the Calton Group of companies won first place for Food Manufacturing in the Small and Medium Category at the 2006 District - Island President’s awards supported by the Rural Industries and Self Employment Promotion. It won third place in Food manufacturing in small and medium category at the 2006 Provincial level President’s awards ceremony.
