Plenty Foods Ltd., a subsidiary of Ceylon Biscuits Limited (CBL) and the manufacturer of Samaposha, its flagship cereal brand, clinched a Gold and Bronze prize at the recently held National Agribusiness Awards.
The awards ceremony held in recognition of performance and contribution by the formal business sector towards the development of agribusiness in Sri Lanka was hosted by the National Agribusiness Council for the eighth consecutive year. The prize distribution was held under the patronage of Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena at the BMICH.
Plenty Foods Ltd. bagged the national Bronze award for adding value to the agricultural category, while retaining nutrition and delivering convenience with their highly rated brand Samaposha. In addition to this prestigious accolade, the Plenty Foods team was also presented a Gold award for their large scale food processing plant.
The awards were sector based, grouped in to small, medium and large categories and segmented by input suppliers, services, producers, processors, and marketers. A competent panel of judges made the selections based on business overview, financial management, human resource management, social impact and sector specific performance.
Elated by the win, Plenty Foods Director / Chief Executive Officer Shammi Karunaratne said: “It is indeed a pleasure to be recognised as one of the leading companies in the agri business industry. The Gold and Bronze awards won by the Plenty Foods team, has yet again proven the company’s outstanding contribution to the industry and confirmed the high standards of our products and facilities.”
He further noted: “While we manufacture Sri Lanka’s most consumed cereal products using 100% locally sourced raw materials, Plenty Foods is committed to keeping high standards in the process of plantation, transportation and production. The Plenty Foods Association has not limited their involvement with the farmers only for transactions but the company also plays a major role in their livelihood.”
While Plenty Foods Ltd., is the largest manufacturer of cereal products, Samaposha remains its most recognised brand. In addition, 4GB, a ready to eat grain bar was launched recently, expanding the nutritious product range. Due to the stringent quality assurance practices and concentrated efforts to ensure good quality cultivation systems, the company has been awarded the SLS, ISO, HACCP and GMP certifications from the Sri Lanka Standards Institute. Samaposha is now the only local cereal product in Sri Lanka, with several quality assurance credentials.
