CIC Agri Businesses has come up with another ‘first’ with the introduction of seed coating technology to Sri Lankan farmers in another bid to enhance productivity in the agriculture sector.
The seed coating technology which is widely used in developed countries will be introduced to Sri Lankan farmers for all low country vegetable seeds.
Addressing the media and some of their key business partners, CIC Seeds Director Waruna Madawanarachchi outlined the many benefits that the farmers will receive by way of this new technology.
“This technology provides a thin film of coating to agricultural seed which will expedite the germination process and provide the protection to the young plants during the early stage of its growth. As a result healthy and uniform plants will be produced and these plants will be able to withstand soil and seed borne diseases and finally produce the potential harvest that is expected,” he said.
CIC Agri Businesses which has been in the forefront of agriculture development in the island currently produces over 200,000 bushels of seed paddy and also a range of local vegetable seeds in their farms in Hingurakgoda, Pelwehera and Thalawa and also through a 20,000 strong outgrower network that is scattered islandwide.asssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
