Colombo Tea Auctions brew all-time record prices

At this week’s tea auctions, several all-time record prices were established, Forbes and Walker Tea Brokers said. It said all these record prices were established in ex estate and high and medium catalogues of Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. Dunsinane, one of the largest tea plantations situated in the Dimbula Planting District and famous for production of some of the best high grown CTC tea, established an all-time record price of Rs. 510 per kg for a PF1 Grade, which surpassed the previous record price of Rs. 500. This line of tea was purchased by Uni World Teas ltd. Dunsinane estate is owned and managed by Elpitiya Plantations PLC. St. James Mark, reputed for producing Uva quality teas, established an all-time record price of Rs. 1,100 for a line of pekoe 1 grade which was purchased by Stassen Exports Ltd. This surpassed the previous all-time record price for this grade established at the sale of 13 August 2013 by the same mark. St. James is owned and managed by Malwatte Valley Plantations PLC. Craighead Mark, considered to be the best selling mark in the medium grown elevation category, equalled the all-time record price for a BOP1 grade of Rs. 780 at this week’s auction. This line of tea was purchased by Basilur Tea Exports Ltd. The previous all-time record price was established at last week’s sale, also by Craighead Mark. This clearly indicates the consistent product quality maintained by the estate. Craighead is owned and managed by Kahawatte Plantations PLC.
