Craighead estate established an all-time record price of Rs. 780 for a Pekoe grade in the western medium category, at the weekly tea auctions held on 25 October. Craighead is situated in Udahenthenna, Nawalapitiya and is renowned for its premium quality teas and has been ranked the number one estate in the western medium category for the past decade. They have also achieved Gold, Silver and Bronze awards at the Ceylon Speciality Estate tea of the year competition in Dubai 2014/2015. This line of tea was purchased by Akbar Brother Ltd. and the sale was conducted by Forbes & Walker Tea Brokers Ltd. Craighead estate is owned and managed by Kahawatta Plantations PLC and falls within the purview of Chaminda Gunarathna, General Manager for the upcountry region who has been associated with these achievements.
