Forum on best practices for future export agriculture tomorrow

The Lanka Fruit and Vegetable Producers Processors and Exporters Association (LFVPPEA) will hold a forum on best practices for future export agriculture tomorrow (6 August) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sri Lanka Export Development Board, Colombo 2.

It aims to disseminate modern and futuristic agri-based knowledge for the advancement of the industry sector. The commitment of resource persons with a wealth of knowledge and experience from both public and private sectors on a single platform will be a unique feature of this event. 

Areas covered includes agronomic practices for producing export quality fruits and vegetables; pre and post-harvest practices to meet compliance standards; international plant quarantine demand for agri produce covering GAP and QRS; Sri Lankan GAP; dissemination on WTO/ITC training programs and activities to support the export agriculture sector and special segment on pineapple cultivation including new technology for propagation of planting material.   

Resource persons will be Dr. Subha Heenkenda – Additional Secretary (Agriculture Technology), Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Ilmi G.N. Hewajulige, Senior Deputy Director, Food Technology Section, Industrial Technology Institute, M.I.S. Jayasekera, Director (Standardisation), Sri Lanka Standard Institute (SLSI), Champika Hewage, Officer In Charge, National Plant Quarantine Services, Sea Port, R.S. Wijesekara – Director – Extension and Training, Department of Agriculture, A. Janaki Alwis – Agriculture Monitoring officer, Regional Agriculture Research Station, Makandura and Lal de Silva – National Project Manager, WTO/ITC Project, the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce

Opening remarks will be delivered by EDB Chairman and CEO Bandula Egodage.

LFVPPEA was established in 1986 to create a single platform for all stakeholders involved in the supply chain for the export of fruits and vegetables, both fresh and processed. LFVPPEA continues the process of organising workshops and forums for its members and for those involved in the export agriculture sector to create awareness and enhance knowledge on the subject.
