DPL was awarded the ‘Investment in People Award’ for recognising and rewarding Sri Lankan smallholder rubber farmers through ‘Firstlight’.
This project is considered the only one of its kind in the latex glove manufacturing industry in the world. It is an integrated supply chain initiative that provides a sustainable and ethical foundation to DPL’s latex glove manufacturing process.Firstlight makes it viable for stallholderfarmers to sustain and continue with their rubber production. Smallholders account for 65% of Sri Lanka’s national rubber crop. Rubber accounts for 6% of Sri Lanka’s National GDP.
DPL has sustained the Firstlight project over the past seven years and is committed to taking this initiative to greater heights,as its signature CSR project amongst many other community support initiatives the company has ventured into.
DPL recognises that corporate social responsibility projects undertaken need to offer synergies with business priorities. DPL owns a global market share of 5% in the non-medical rubber segment.
Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Awards (AREA) commenced in 2008 as a CSR recognition programme to create an Asia that is rich in entrepreneurship as an engine towards sustainable and progressive economic and social development within a world of economic equality.
