Minister Jagath Pushpakumara stated that development works on all rural roads and internal roads in the Monaragala District are nearing completion.
The severely damaged road network, the minister continued, which caused grave difficulties in travelling for the people, has since been developed with special attention towards the road network in the five divisional secretary divisions of Kataragama, Buttala, Wellawaya, Thanamalwila and Sevanagala.
Minister Pushpakumara further stated that in appreciation of the confidence placed in the United Peoples Freedom Alliance by the people in the Monaragala District and in the victories hitherto achieved by the Alliance in each and every election, development works common to all, irrespective of party, race and creed differences, have been taken up.
The minister also stated, “The earlier program was ‘One Village One Work’. Now the President has provided funds for ‘All works in one Division’. While electricity and water is provided on one side, the road network is also being developed on the other side. What I asked from you is to draw up a Five Year Plan identifying all requirements and deficiencies in the village.”
“The general impression is that Jagath Pushpakumara is interested in common development strategies and none can compete with him. Let us contribute our might in the next election and show the President that a ministry capable of providing employment to the girls and boys should be assigned.”
“In the history of Wellawaya, I am the first Deputy Minister. Then the first ever Cabinet Minister and I am the one and only Minister of Coconut Development in the world. Now countries such as Tanzania, Cuba and India seek our advice. Jagath Pushpakumara, a villager who was elevated to this position by you, has managed to make changes in the history of the world’s coconut development sector and uplift the Ministry of Coconut Development to the consultant level, providing advice to the rest of the world.”
