JASTECA organises seminar for tea industry

Although the tea sector is a major player in our country’s economy, it is vulnerable to any slightest adverse effect. Whenever there is a labour issue, wage increase, change of weather pattern, a crisis in a tea buying country, the impact is hard on the bottom line as the tea industry is surviving on very thin margins. Do we want to continue the same way as we have done for the last 150 years or look at new avenues?



Japan Sri Lanka Technical and Cultural Association (JASTECA) the alumni society of Association for Overseas Technical Scholarships (AOTS) in Japan has organised a seminar with the objective of making the stake holders think out of the box for a change.

The theme of the seminar is The Challenge For A Change In Taking The Tea Industry To A New Era.’

This program would be held on 13 January, Friday at Taj Samudra Hotel at 9a.m. Experts in the field M/S CEO Roshan Rajadurai, Kahawatte Plantations Quality Assurance GM Upali Premalal and Maskeliya/ Watawala plantations former Director Ananda Feranando are expected to give presentations on technical aspects.

The special feature would be a thought provocative presentation by EAM Maliban Textiles Ltd former Director/CEO Athula Edirisinghe, on “Winning ways in Apparels without a brand name”.

The key note speech would be by Ministry of Industrial Development and Commerce and Tea Cluster Chairman Rohantha Athukorala, who also has held many top positions in both the state sector and private sector including in multinational companies.
