At this week’s rubber auction held at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce on 11 July, Kumarawatte Estate in Moneragala had the rare distinction of achieving two top prices. Inv 33 Latex Crepe 1X was sold at Rs. 402 per kg which was the highest price recorded for this premium grade and was Rs. 7 higher than the auction quotation for this grade which ranged from Rs. 380 to Rs. 395.
Another lot of Kumarawatte Latex Crepe 2 grade under invoice 34 realised Rs. 385 per kg which again was the top price for LCR2. The broker handling the sale of rubber from this estate was Lanka Commodity Brokers Ltd.
Kumarawatte Estate is managed by the Janatha Estates Development Board and comes under the purview of the Ministry of State Resources and Enterprise Development.
